About this event
Get to grips with the fascinating world of wine on this 4 week introductory course. Run over 4 sessions, this is designed for people who enjoy wine and want to learn more about it, in a fun, friendly and relaxed setting with no previous wine tasting experience necessary!
At the end of the course you will:
- Be able to taste wine like a professional
- Have learned how to assess the quality of a wine
- Be able to tell if a wine is faulty
- Understand the world’s most important red and white wines
- Have tasted 27 different wines!
- Know how to match food with wine
- Understand wine labels and improve your confidence in selecting wines
- Plus lots more!
Course Breakdown:
Week 1 – Introduction to Wine Tasting: Basics of how wine is made, where it comes from, how to taste like a pro, and tasting 6 key wines using the ‘Nez du Vin’ aroma kit.
Week 2 – White wines of the world: Taste 7 white wines, explore grape varieties, regions, oak use, cork vs screw cap, and wine myths.
Week 3 – Red wines of the world: Explore red wine styles from Pinot Noir to Shiraz, discuss tannin, aging, decanting, and serving temperatures.
Week 4 – Scottish Food and Wine Matching: Pair 7 Scottish delicacies (e.g. Arbroath smokie, Highland venison, Strathdon Blue) with wines from around the world, understanding acidity, alcohol, tannin, and sweetness in pairing.
Comprehensive tasting sheets, course notes, and professional ISO wine glasses included.
